My name is Chris Thomas. A fortunate husband, a father of three and Dad to five, I’m an advocate of foster care as an implication of the gospel. I’m also a pastor at Raymond Terrace Community Church, a regional church based in the Hunter Valley, Australia. I mostly write about the gospel and how it informs both work and rest.

Please, Sir, I Want Some More

Please, Sir, I Want Some More

I wonder if, as he penned them, Charles Dickens ever realised the enduring imagery these words would hold.

“Please, Sir, I want some more.”

Oliver’s hunger drove him from his seat, pressed him to conquer fear, compelled him to search for that which would satisfy.

When I began the Ploughman’s Rest, almost 12 months ago to the day, it was largely driven by that same compelling hunger for more. I wanted more of Jesus, more of grace, more of the comfort of the gospel. I wanted more.

I am grateful for the friends I’ve made in the year gone by, the men and women who have shared this road in pursuit of more. I am grateful for those of you who have walked at my side, sent messages of encouragement, and shared with me your own pursuit for more of the good news of God’s grace in Christ. I am humbled by those of you who have shared my posts, entrusting your networks with my voice. I am indebted to those who used their much broader platform to champion my work.

In reflection, I scrolled back to my post from this time last year, and gave thanks that God has sustained the journey with grace. Taken from my first post here, a quote from Bob Kauflin still sets the melody I hope this blog can sing to.

There is nothing more amazing, more transforming, more clarifying, more motivating, than understanding what Jesus accomplished on Calvary and how God revealed himself to us through Christ. Glorying in the gospel is a never ending source of comfort, security, power, wonder, joy, hope, and faith.

Thank you for travelling with me this last year. By God’s grace, and with the boldness that comes with Sonship, let us draw near together to the Father, saying,

“Please, Sir, I want some more.”
